چکیده

The present paper reports three new echinostome cercariae with a review of known 18 spp. of Japanese echinostome cercariae. They were found from the brackish water snails collected from a muddy seashore at Urayasu during the past years from 1944 to 1952. One of these, Cercaria pseudo grani f era n. sp., bearing a strong resemblance to Cercaria grani f era Ogata, 1943, differed from it in detailed morphological features. Another species, Cercaria ophthalmoechinata n. sp. was a peculiar echinostome type in possession of one pair of eye spot. It was found on two occasions from the snail, T ympanotonus microptera. A third species, Cercaria yamagutii n. sp., characterized by possessing one pair of side branched excretory tube, was found in many occasions in 1944 but rapidly decreased the infection rate in subsequent years of investigation. Materials and methods were omitted here since they were given in details in the former papers of this series (Ito, 1956a; 1956b) .

The Morphology of Cercariae Obtained from a Snail Host, Semisulcospira Libertina in Japan

Fresh water snails, Semisulcospira libertina, including S reiniana and S. japonica, are known as the first intermediate hosts of pathogenic trematodes, e. g. Paragonimus, Metagonimus, etc. These snails are also infected with many other non-pathogenic cercariae, the majority of which have been described up to now incompletely. Therefore, in the case of epidemiological studies, research workers u...

Seasonal and Geographic Distribution of Cercarial Infection in Lymnaea gedrosiana (Pulmunata: Lymnaeidae) In North West Iran

BACKGROUND Trematodes are a diverse group of endoparasites which require molluscan and vertebrate animals as intermediate and definitive hosts in their life cycle. The present study was carried out to determine the diversity and geographic distribution of infection with trematodes'cercariae in the snail Lymnaea gedrosiana from north-west Iran. METHODS A total number of 6759 Lymnaeidae snails ...

Morphological Characteristics and Phylogenetic Trends of Trematode Cercariae in Freshwater Snails from Nakhon Nayok Province, Thailand

The prevalence of cercarial infection in freshwater snails and their evolutionary trends were studied in Nakhon Nayok province, Thailand. A total of 2,869 individual snails were examined for parasitic infections. The results showed that 12 snail species were found to host larval stages of trematodes with an overall prevalence of 4.7%. The infected specimens included 7 types at the cercarial sta...

Snails and trematode infection after Indian Ocean tsunami in Phang-Nga Province, southern Thailand.

The tsunami and non-tsunami affected areas of Takua Pa District, Phang-Nga Province were investigated for fresh- and brackish-water snails that transmit human parasitic diseases during 2006 and 2007. Among 46 snail species found, 17 species of 8 families were freshwater snails, 28 species of another 7 families were brackish-water snails, and 1 species was a land snail. Of these species, 11 fres...

Studies on Cercariae from Kuwait Bay. XI. Description and surface topography of Cercaria kuwaitae XI sp.n. (Digenea: Echinostomatidae).

A new echinostome cercaria, Cercaria kuwaitae XI sp.n., from the prosobranch gastropod Cerithidea cingulata (Gmelin) from Kuwait Bay is described. The new cercaria is characterized by 23 collar spines and primary excretory tubules with distinct diverticula. The cercaria encysts in the snail host and is similar to those of Acanthoparyphium sp. The surface topography of the redia, cercaria and me...
